The Action Peoples Party (APP) has denied insinuations that Rivers State Governor Siminilayi Fubara is funding the party in preparation to join it.

The Guardian reports that ahead of the Local Government elections scheduled for October 5 this year, and with the failure of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership at the national and state levels to work with Fubara, people alleged that the Governor and his supporters were planning to join the APP.

This development allegedly led to the recent detonation of an explosive device at the APP state secretariat, though the office complex has since been repaired.

Speaking on the issue, the State Chairman of the APP, Sunny Wokekoro, described the allegation as baseless and the handiwork of enemies of the state who want to continue instigating crises.

He declared, “The Governor is not in any way funding APP.”

Wokekoro, however, stated that the PDP is a “dying” party that is no longer a viable option for any politician who means well for the state or the country. He argued that the nation’s main opposition party has lost its relevance in the scheme of things.

He said, “At the moment, Fubara is not a member of the APP and does not own it, so the reports linking Fubara to the party are baseless.”

The APP chairman, however, added that the party would make all efforts to woo the governor and other national and state assembly members to contest the next Local Council election on the platform of the APP.

On his part, National Chairman of the APP, Uchenna Nnadi, commended the immediate past leadership of the party in the state for bringing the party to relevance through their resignation, noting that what causes crises and litigations in other parties was amicably resolved internally in the APP.

He expressed delight that people are joining the party because it is focused, assuring that the APP will showcase its strength in the October 5, 2024 Local Council polls.

Earlier, the former Chairman of the party, Mr. Kenneth Atata, read a communiqué issued by the past executives, which passed a vote of confidence in the new leadership of the party in the state, led by Wokekoro.
