Guber: PDP’s Ighodalo best for Edo State, says Adeleke

Mr. Asue Ighodalo

Elected governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday vowed to resist any attempt to steal the votes of the party during the Edo Governorship election in the state coming up on September 21st, saying “the PDP has the best candidate for Governor in Edo State.”

Addressing Edo people and party supporters during the grand finale of the PDP campaign rally in Benin, PDP BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, asked the people not to be scared of arrest but to come out en masse to vote for the party’s candidate, saying no amount of intimidation can stop the PDP from winning the September 21st election.

Speaking, former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, urged the people to vote and protect their votes, noting that the opposition party “cannot come to Edo State to steal votes.”

Atiku said Edo State is one of the strongholds of the PDP and demanded that the status quo must remain.

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, said the opposition APC has been rejected both at the national level and in Edo State.

“They will have to kill and arrest all of us if they are to take Edo State. To INEC, please, I enjoin you, we don’t want that late-night result announcement. Edo State election will be a test for our democracy,” Damagum said.

Damagum, who assured that the PDP will provide good governance in Edo State, said all eyes would be focused on Edo, calling on the people to reject those who want to plunder the resources of the state.

He said, “Don’t allow any short devil that we don’t know from which planet he came to shortchange them.”

On his part, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed said the people must join hands to deliver and retain the PDP government in the state, saying, “We are together and we are unified. We are not joining issues with the ignorant.”

He thanked the Edo people for their support for Governor Godwin Obaseki and appealed for the same support to be extended to the PDP governorship candidate in the September 21st election.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Osun State counterpart Ademola Adeleke said, “We have the best candidate in the Edo Governorship election.”

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal said, “We are here in solidarity with our people in Edo State. Please vote for the PDP and protect your votes.”

Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri said Edo State is on the right track with the PDP in government. “We want you to vote for the PDP because this is the zone the opposition has targeted. Out of 6 states in our zone, the PDP has 5 states.”

On his part, the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, promised to enthrone good governance if given the mandate.

Ighodalo urged Edo people to come out en masse to vote and not be intimidated by the threat of violence from the opposition.

“The President of Nigeria has said the September governorship election in Edo State will be free and fair,” Ighodalo said.

Ighodalo added that the PDP under his watch will prioritize the security of lives and property in Edo. “I will ensure that everybody in the state is secure and happy,” he said.
