Dr. Asue Ighodalo has denied claims suggesting he has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the rumours as baseless and politically motivated.
The clarification came on Monday from the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO), following the circulation of a video online purporting that the former PDP gubernatorial candidate had defected from the party.
In a statement issued in Benin City by TAMO’s spokesperson, Erhabor Emokpae, the group described the video as a fabrication designed to mislead the public and create confusion ahead of the forthcoming National Assembly by-elections in Edo State.
“Dr. Ighodalo remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read. “The video in circulation is false, and we urge the public to disregard it and the mischief behind its creation.”
The statement further emphasised that Dr. Ighodalo is focused on his vision for a safe and prosperous Edo and continues to play an active role in strengthening the PDP as a platform for the protection of people’s interests.
Observers say the timing of the false report coincides with heightened political activities ahead of the by-elections, fuelling speculation of attempts to sow discord within the party’s ranks.
Ighodalo has been a key figure in Edo PDP politics and is widely viewed as a unifying voice within the party.
