Enugu ALGON deputy chair faults Iyere over Gov. Mbah remarks

The Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State, Hon. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, has faulted the founder of the Obidient Movement, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, over alleged derogatory comments made against Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Ukwueze spoke out in response to a video made by the Coordinator-General of the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), Comrade Kennedy Iyere, where he allegedly made a series of hostile comments against Governor Mbah, claiming that he was a mistake made by the people of Enugu State.

Ukwueze suggested that Iyere, who previously supported Governor Mbah and encouraged other gubernatorial candidates to back him after his election victory, should be concerned about his reputation.

He further disputed Iyere’s claim that Governor Mbah was financially struggling before the 2023 general election, labelling the statement as malicious and fueled by deep-seated resentment.
Ukwueze warned Iyere to be mindful of the language he uses against a Governor who governs over seven million people, urging him to refrain from hate speech.

He also questioned why Iyere would allege that Governor Mbah informed unspecified friends that he had resolved their issues, without specifying who was informed, where the conversation took place, or why such a settlement would occur.

Ukwueze emphasised the importance of providing evidence to support serious allegations, rather than spreading baseless rumours that could incite unnecessary tension.

He also educated Comrade Iyere on Governor Mbah’s prudent use of the state’s funds, which has earned him widespread public praise and numerous Governor-of-the-Year awards from reputable organisations.

Ukwueze highlighted the Governor’s investment in infrastructure, health care, education, security and the revitalisation of state-owned industries, emphasising the visible development across the state that has earned Governor Mbah the recognition of Governor of the Year.
