The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ratified the suspension of Hon. Leke Abejude and five other members for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities and insubordination.
Abejide is the House of Representatives member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, and also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise Duties.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja on Monday, the secretary of the party, Hon. Adaji John Udale, said the suspension, as approved by the State Working Committee (SWC), took effect immediately.
State Chairman of ADC, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, in his remarks, attributed the action of the party to the disciplinary posture of the party. He added that the suspended members are disloyal to the party.
“They were suspended for disloyalty and insubordination”, he said.
The SWC specifically referenced an incident at Harris Hotel in Abuja where some members allegedly “usurped the power of the leadership” and engaged in activities contrary to the party’s constitution.
The other suspended members are Dr. Idris Omede (Abejide’s running mate in the last Kogi State governorship election), Hon. Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo and Olabode Kayode.
The party’s leadership stated that the suspension was carried out in accordance with its constitution and followed a review of the members’ activities since the 2023 general elections.
It noted that the suspended members, particularly Abejide and Omede, had failed to honour previous invitations for meetings.
The suspended members have been directed to appear before the ADC National Working Committee in the principle of fair hearing at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, August 11, 2025, at noon.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Working Committee unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and the State Secretary, John Adaji Udale.
