•Commends state’s agricultural potential, commits to investment
The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Tuesday, met with party stakeholders in Cross River State to map out strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Calabar, Kwankwaso urged party members to prioritise unity and strengthen the party’s presence across the state. He said: “I thank all the leaders and members of NNPP in Cross River State. I want to use this opportunity to thank you for receiving us. We are so happy with the leadership of the party in the state. I want to encourage you to work hard to ensure unity within the party.”
“Let me thank you for what you did during the last election in 2023. I urge you to work harder so that, by the grace of God, our party, the NNPP, will win the election in Cross River and Nigeria.
“Ensure unity within the party, especially now that we have a new big office in Calabar and many local council areas across the state. On behalf of members of my entourage, I want to say thank you and God bless you,” he added.
MEANWHILE, while on a courtesy visit to the Governor of the state, Bassey Otu, the former governor of Kano State, lauded the state’s vast agricultural potential, pledging to invest more in the sector as a means of fostering national development and inspiring younger generations. He made the remarks at the Government House, Calabar, where he was received by the Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, who represented the governor.
The former governor, who recalled his longstanding ties with Cross River leaders dating back to his time as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1992, said Cross River’s fertile land and favourable climate make it a natural hub for agribusiness.
He explained that his decision to embrace farming after public service was a deliberate step to remain productive while creating sustainable opportunities for future generations.
“I chose to be a farmer because whether you are in office or not, you must have something doing. Farming keeps you productive, ensures food security, and creates wealth. I am here with my children so they can also see what it means to invest in agriculture,” Kwankwaso stated.
Responding on behalf of the governor, Odey welcomed Kwankwaso and his delegation, describing their choice of Cross River as an investment destination as a step in the right direction.
