Lagos PDP, Jandor trade words over leadership claim
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has chided its governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Abdul-Azeez Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, over his claim of being the leader of the party in the state.
It would be recalled that Jandor had asserted during a thank-you parley with his team at his campaign office on Sunday that PDP leaders who supported another party in the last election were no longer members and reiterated his position as the party’s top leader as its flagbearer.
But in his response, yesterday, the state’s PDP Chairman, Philip Olabode Aivoji, refuted Jandor’s claim, saying that the state chairman of the party remains the leader of the party in Lagos State, and Section 22 of the party’s constitution is sacrosanct on the establishment and composition of the party’s state caucus, and there is nowhere the candidate of the party is mentioned as a member of such a leadership position.
Aivoji, who, however, asked Jandor to apologise and withdraw the statement, which he described as an affront and casting aspersions on the party’s leaders, said: “We will like to put it on record that the PDP is a political party governed by the rule of law and the party’s constitution remains supreme in the operation of the party where the Lagos State chapter derives its authority and there is nowhere in the constitution of the party where leadership is conferred on any candidate of the party.
“Therefore, the statement ascribed to Jandor is falsehood, divisive and an attempt to mislead unsuspecting members of the party in the state and the public at large.”
MEANWHILE, when contacted, the Spokesperson for Jandor Campaign Organisation, Gbenga Ogunleye, accused the chairman of selling the party out in the last election.
“He has lost the moral and legal justification to remain in that office. He should resign if he has any modicum of integrity,” he said.
