Former Speaker (pro-tempore) of Benue State House of Assembly, Terngu Tsegba, has joined other individuals and groups to endorse Senator Gabriel Suswam for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At a rally organised under the auspices of the Concerned Benue PDP Stakeholders in Makurdi, yesterday, Tsegba, who was Suswam’s contemporary in the 4th and 5th National Assembly, said he was “solidly behind the aspiration of Suswam.”

The former banker, at the occasion, said with Suswam as PDP chairman, discipline, on which the PDP was founded in 1998, would be restored. Tsegba, who represented Gboko/Tarka in the green chamber, bemoaned that the PDP had degenerated to a point where people in the party openly worked against it during elections and nothing happened to them. He expressed conviction that “if Suswam becomes the chairman of the PDP, the party will never be controlled from the outside.”

Also, Minority Leader of Benue Assembly, Mike Audu, representing Adoka/Ukpoju constituency, said the PDP caucus of the Assembly “has already endorsed Suswam.”

Meanwhile, on behalf of the North Central zone of PDP, North Central Zonal Secretary, Maurice Tsav, said it was still a bit early for the party to endorse a particular candidate, even as he said the North Central Zonal Caucus of PDP was on the same page with Suswam, that the chairmanship should be retained in the North Central.

According to Tsav, though it was not in doubt that Suswam has the credentials to lead the PDP, the North Central Zone is providing a level playing field for every aspirant and would meet and amicably arrive at a candidate they will present at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on April 18.

Convener of the rally and PDP gubernatorial aspirant in the 2023 general elections, Paul Ubwa, maintained: “In the spirit of fairness, we believe that the North Central should be allowed to complete our tenure.

“In Suswam, we have found a leader whose dedication, democratic principles and inclusivity are exemplary. As a founding member of the party, he has remained in the party. He, therefore, understands better the vision and philosophy of PDP more than anybody who may wish to contest with him.”
