No worries over outcome of Ogun PDP ward congresses, says chieftain
The National Vice Chairman of Southwest Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ajisafe Toyese, yesterday, described the sentiment being raised by naysayers against the August 31 ward congresses held across Ogun State by the party as mischievous and inconsequential.
Toyese told The Guardian that the congresses went smoothly and the outcome was not only impressive but also accepted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
He said the party already had a caretaker committee in place in Ogun, adding that there is no going back on the planned council and state congresses scheduled for September 14 and 28 respectively.
“The party’s NWC has already written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other critical stakeholders informing them about the coming council and state congresses and I assure you that no amount of negative efforts would displace them,” he said.
Toyose’s response is coming on the heels of those who felt a particular individual in the party is using his enormous wealth to determine what happens and who gets what in Ogun PDP.
He said: “There is nothing like that. It’s a free, fair and open exercise. Let those saying otherwise show the entire Nigerians evidence of their participation in the ward congresses.”
Meanwhile, following the outcome of the last ward congresses, which favoured the faction of the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 poll, LadiAdebutu, some disgruntled elements have raised eyebrows that the NWC is trying to favour a particular person for whatever reason and purpose.
It was also gathered that some critical members of the Ogun PDP had for the same reason defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the structure of the party had always been tailored to favour a particular person as they also indicted the NWC.
