Obaseki holds victory rally, reassures on sustained development

‘Ruling end of godfather syndrome, freedom for Edo people’

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, led citizens of the state, party faithful and supporters to a victory rally in Benin City, to celebrate his Supreme Court electoral victory.
 
The five-man panel of justices had on May 28, 2021 upheld the ruling of the Appeal Court, which dismissed the alleged certificate forgery suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Obaseki in the 2020 governorship poll.
 
Speaking in front of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) complex, he reassured that his administration would continue to work for the development of the state and wellbeing of the people.

“They wanted us to continue to feed godfathers. If I had agreed with them, there would not have been any fight in the first place,” he said.

Continuing, Obaseki said: “The victory meant freedom. It means that we must rededicate ourselves to our people because democracy is all about the people. Democracy is not about an individual or godfather. We have defeated the godfather finally in our quest to take Edo to where it should be.”

Reacting to the congratulatory messages of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the former National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, the governor said he was yet to receive original copies of the letters they signed.
