Labour leaders in Oyo State on Wednesday endorsed Ayobami Adeogun’s bid for a second term as president of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, declaring their support at the official flag-off of his re-election campaign at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
The endorsement came from top union figures, including the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), who cited Adeogun’s performance and leadership style as the basis for their backing.
Speaking at the campaign launch, Oyo State NLC Chairman, Kayode Martins, said the union stood solidly behind Adeogun, whom he described as “a tested and trusted hand.”
“His achievements speak for themselves. Though the number of delegates committed to him is already enough to guarantee victory, we want unity of purpose. We want all 36 branches aligned behind his vision,” Martins said.
He added, “Nobody changes a working leadership. It is only defective leadership people seek to replace.”
Oluwaseun Olanipekun, the JNC Chairman in Oyo State, echoed the sentiments. “Adeogun is a full-time asset to the labour struggle in this state,” he said. “There is no vacancy in NULGE in this state.”
In his remarks, Adeogun thanked union members and leaders for their support and pledged to uphold the values of the organisation.
“Today is a bold reminder that integrity still lives among us,” he said. “We are not new to this struggle. We are a tested team that has brought credibility, fairness, and excellence to the administration of our great union.”
He urged members to resist external interference and reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent election process.
The re-election campaign comes as NULGE prepares for internal elections across its local branches.
