PFN group says Christians should produce next gov
Vice Chairman, Southwest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, has slammed the Federal Government over the continued withholding of the local government allocations meant for councils in Osun State, describing the development as an offence against humanity.
Ajisafe also opined that President Bola Tinubu had not reciprocated the good gesture extended to him by Governor Ademola Adeleke, adding that the Federal Government was depriving Osun people of their fundamental rights to funds and welfare because of politics.
Reacting to the funds’ seizure in a chat with journalists yesterday, the PDP chieftain stressed that Adeleke should be given credit for the way he has handled the finances of the state despite the absence of local government allocations.
He noted that Adeleke had been depriving himself of many things to make the state better, stating that the governor was not taking security votes and had been travelling on his family’s private jets.
He also noted that Adeleke had been saving money to do all the projects in the state, adding that he had also been paying the half-salary the APC government owed workers, despite the LG funds’ seizure.
In another development, an arm of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG), Osun State Chapter, has noted that for justice and fairness, the Christian Community in the state should produce the next governor.
Besides, the group denounced what it termed wrong statistics being bandied around that Muslims in the state are 67 per cent; rather, they claimed that correct data showed that the Christian population in the state currently stands at 47 per cent, Muslims 43 per cent and others 10 per cent.
According to a statement signed at the weekend by the State DPG’s Director, Rev. Isaac Alamu, and the Secretary, Rev. Walter Aworanti, these were parts of the resolution of the group after a one-day seminar held in Osogbo, the state capital, by DPG state executives and their representatives from all the 30 local governments in the state and the area office, Modakeke-Ife.
The PFN group noted that out of the seven civilian governors that had ruled the state, only one of them, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was a Christian.
They listed the names of the Muslim governors as Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Chief Abdulkareem Adebisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola and Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke.
They noted that by the time the current governor would be completing his tenure in 2026, Muslim governors would have spent 22 years compared to the seven years spent by Oyinlola.
