A group of youths in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, identified as Christian Youths in Politics, has urged the PDP to zone its governorship ticket to the Northern part of the state “in fairness and unity of the party.”
The leader of the group, Jondes James, said that power rotation has become pertinent in 2027 to allow other parts of the state to feel a sense of belonging. According to him, regions like Bauchi North have been agitating for a governorship seat while the southern part has held on to power since 1999, after the return of democratic rule.
Speaking in Bauchi during a press conference, James said that, having agreed to throw the ticket to the North, the party members should consider the serving Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties, Hon Farouk Mustapha, as their preferred governorship candidate.
James said: “Since the return of democracy in 1999, all the elected governors, including Ahmed Muazu, Isa Yuguda, Muhammed Abdullahi Abubakar and current Governor Bala Mohammed, all came from Bauchi South, and there is a need for the party to give other competent candidates from the Northern part of the state a chance to govern the state.”
James also appealed to Governor Mohammed and the leadership of the PDP in Bauchi State to consider zoning the PDP governorship ticket to the Bauchi North Senatorial zone and yield to their clarion call for Hon. Farouk Mustapha as the befitting candidate, in the spirit of equity, fairness, and justice.
