The Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF), Abudulganiyu Adebomehin, said the Nigeria Administrative Map (NAM) will be a useful legal instrument in ensuring effective governance and management.
Adebomehin, who stated this at a meeting with Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), led by Abdul Baba Mohammed in Abuja, said the map will provide locations of available resources and other materials.
The SGoF also explained that it will provide data that would help in the effective mobilisation and allocation of resources, adding, “there is need to build mutual understanding among people for the corporate existence of the country.”
According to him, many maps produced without their approval, has misleading and ineffectual information that could induce dysfunctional conflict among states and communities.
Adebomehin urged stakeholders to always confirm the reliability of their geospatial data with the OSGoF when in doubt to avoid waste of resources in their project planning and implementation.
He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to see mapping as an instrument of peace building and resolution of unconstructive conflicts. He also urged members of the public to stop using maps without the Seal of the SGoF’s office.
Earlier, RMAFC Director, Abdul Baba Mohammed, commended them for the provision of requisite geospatial data as end-user, adding, “we will always consult with the office in the discharge of our functions to produce reliable data.
Mohammed noted that the tasks of RMAFC remain sensitive and pledged that the commission would work with the geospatial data generated by OSGoF, the apex-mapping office of the Federal Government to ensure equitable mobilisation and distribution of common wealth.
Some of the officials that accompanied RMAFC Director of Allocation are Deputy Director, Hamis Isiak Moh’d; Assistant Directors – Dauda Mustapha and Okon Ante and Chief Revenue Officer. Vivien Ashiedu.
