PWDs task Sanwo-Olu on constitution of LASODA board

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Say it is critical to checking fraud in agency

Lagos State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Dr. Adebukola Adebayo, has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently constitute Lagos Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) Governing Board in the state, with all disability clusters represented.

According to him, the office will give direction and inclusiveness in the management of the agency and also avoid mismanagement of funds, which have further led to impoverishment of PWDs in the state.

In a statement, yesterday, Adebayo also urged the governor to initiate an independent audit of the agency and its managers.

He added that qualified professionals and specialists in all the disability types should be employed and deployed to LASODA with a view to ensuring that concerns of each disability type receives proper and professional attention.

Besides, Adebayo, while appealing to the governor to ensure the creation of disability desks manned by qualified professionals in critical Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to facilitate functional and institutional interaction between LASODA and the various MDAs, advised that ignoring the group’s demands would only ridicule the commitment and investment of the governor to guarantee inclusive development for PWDs through LASODA.

“We believe that the governor is committed to addressing the plights of PWDs in the state and that the request will be granted to ensure that his laudable plans for Lagosians with disabilities yield necessary impact,” he stated.
