Students of Ajuwon High School, Ajuwon, Ogun State, have benefitted from the Basic Education and Literacy Project of the Rotary Club of Omole Golden.
Representing the President, Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, at the event, which held at the school hall, the Vice President, Samuel Imonode, said the club was around to impact the needy, the indigent and the less privileged with school bags, water bottles and writing materials which cost over three millions of naira.
“Today, we gave the students 100 quality school bags, 500 exercise books, water bottles and books for the school library.
“Going down the memory lane, we have been carrying out interventions in this school for over 10 years and have sunk borehole, gave school library, the ICT center, Physics Laboratory, installed 20 computers among others and we will continue to do more without expecting anything in return according to our practice.
“My advice to the beneficiaries of today’s project is to be more focused, be diligent and always remember the reason for being here which is to acquire basic education while the government should do more for the school,” he said.
The school was promised more support in the project, titled, “Spelling Bee” and provision of school shoes. The keynoter at the event, Boluwatiwi Ayo-Opaleke, told the students to know the importance of basic education and count themselves lucky to be in school, disclosing that Nigeria is made up of 70 per cent youths with half of this percentage outside the school.
“Education is a leveller to have a better world and basic education helps you to be focused, dedicated, committed, gives you ability to think, innovate, introspect and comprehend,” she said.
She advised the students to promise themselves to henceforth be resilient, focused and determined, adding that they should pledge to say “No” to drugs, crime.
The school principal, Mrs. Omolara Modupe Osewa, affirmed the club’s various interventions since her becoming the Principal of the school seven years ago and prayed for the members.
The Sub-Chair, Basic Education and Literacy month, Julianah Odekhian also testified to the various activities of the club by training 181 teachers using Artificial Intelligence tools, among others.
