Chief Banji Olawoyin was born on June 10, 1956 and died on July 11, 2025 at the age of 69. He attended Adeola Model Primary School, Offa, as one of the pioneering pupils of the prestigious school.
He later gained admission into Offa Grammar School, but had a very brief stay, as his father, the late Asiwaju of Offa, Chief J. S. Olawoyin, sought admission for him at the Nigeria Military School (NMS) after noticing his strength and boldness at that early age.
Olawoyin became very popular among his peers in the military school. This earned him nicknames such as, “Casilan Jamban, Black Jehova, Bobby Flingo” among others. After passing out of the military school in 1974, he served at the S&T Department, Camp 1, of the Ojo Military Cantonment, Lagos.
He later left the Army and joined the Nigerian General Insurance in 1981 and was posted to the Ondo State branch of the company.
As a man of adventure, he resigned from the insurance company in 1984 and relocated to Lagos to start a micro- enterprise. Two years after, he ventured into auto business and being a socialite, he got connected with notable figures in the Lagos auto business circle such as Mr Bube Okorodudu of the Carlink Ikoyi, Lanre Shittu Motors and Road Truckers owned by one of the sons of the popular Benson family.
Olawoyin was well-connected with people of influence and affluence and he used the connection to the advantage of his auto business.
He was honoured with the chieftaincy titles of Bobajiro of Offa and Bashorun of Ifaji in Osun State. He was also the Asiwaju of Diocese of African Church Cathedral Bethel, Abuja.
He was married to Monica Yeside Danisa , daughter of our respected elder, Rodgers Danisa from Atafo family compound, Uhunmora Owan West Local Council, Edo State. He is survived by his wife and two children.
