Comedy legend and showbiz impresario, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, widely known as Ali Baba, has been celebrated as an iconic figure in the Nigerian creative industry, particularly the comedy sector.

The veteran comedian was honoured with an award of excellence in recognition of his significant contributions to the comedy industry and his mentorship of emerging talents. He received the award at the special November edition of the Ojez Elders Forum rebranded as The Forum by Ojez on Sunday, November 24.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ali Baba, in a heartfelt acceptance speech, shared insights from his remarkable journey spanning over three decades in show business. He emphasised that his role extends beyond personal success; “it encompasses nurturing the next generation of comedians by providing them with platforms, mentorship, and opportunities,” he said.

“True success is about lifting others,” he added, underscoring the importance of empowering individuals to pursue their dreams.

Presenting the award to Ali Baba, Chairman of Ojez Entertainment, Chief Joseph Odobeatu, described him as a national treasure. He noted that Ali Baba’s exceptional talent and business acumen have earned him titles such as “Father of Comedy”

Held at the Ojez Lounge, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the recognition marked the second edition of the reinvigorated Ojez Elders Forum, following its much-celebrated re-launch in October, which hosted former Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hajia Gifty Samata Bukari, alongside Nigeria’s award-winning highlife maestro, Sunny Neji.
