The Chief Executive Officer of FANFARO Autofest 2025, Olarenwaju Adekunle, has reiterated his determination to ensure that motorsports become a major platform for placing Nigeria on the global sports and entertainment map.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja ahead of the FANFARO Autofest slated for December 6, Adekunle expressed optimism that motorsport would, in time, command the same national appeal and following that football currently enjoys among Nigerian youths.
He described the Autofest as “a thrilling automotive extravaganza” that blends auto drifts, bike stunts, virtual reality gaming, and kart racing – creating an atmosphere of fearless excitement. What began as a small gathering of 500 enthusiasts in Ibadan five years ago has now grown into a national event attracting over 20,000 followers, reflecting the sport’s rapid evolution and rising popularity.
Adekunle disclosed that the 2025 edition will feature drifters from Nigeria and abroad, many of whom have won international trophies in Kenya and India, further cementing Nigeria’s emerging presence in the global motorsport circuit.
Explaining the decision to bring the event to the Federal Capital Territory, he said Abuja’s vibrant car culture and massive community of enthusiasts made it a natural choice.
“We chose Abuja because it feels like a second home,” he said. “The car culture here is huge, and the community is massive. Since we arrived, the energy has been incredible. We are confident that this year’s Autofest will be one of the best ever.”
Adekunle also dispelled the notion that the event, which boasts a N10 million prize for the winner, is driven by profit motives. Instead, he emphasised its social impact, particularly in engaging young Nigerians and providing them with a creative, structured outlet.
“This is not a money-making venture,” he explained. “What we gain from this is the joy of putting smiles on people’s faces – especially the youths. Many of our drivers have helped train and mentor young people, teaching them how to build, maintain, and drift cars in a safe and controlled environment. It keeps them off the streets and gives them purpose.”
Reiterating his belief that Nigeria has the talent, passion, and youth demographic to transform motorsport into the country’s next global success story, he said: “Motorsport is not just entertainment; it’s a culture, a discipline, and a vehicle for empowerment,” he affirmed. “With the right support, it can put Nigeria on the world stage — just like football has done.”
