AFCON 2023: Aboubakar recovers from injury ahead of Cameroon, Nigeria clash
Indomitable Lions of Cameroon captain, Vincent Aboubakar, is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s AFCON 2023 round of 16 clash with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Aboubakar missed Cameroon’s group games after picking up an injury during training just few days before the commencement of the tournament.
According to Cameroon’s media outfit Equinoxe Tv, Aboubakar was part of the team’s intense session which lasted for 90 minutes on Wednesday.
Equinoxe Tv also revealed that forward, Clinton Njie, has recovered from injury and is available for section.
Aboubakar finished top scorer at the AFCON 2021 held in Cameroon with eight goals.
The 32-year-old has scored four goals, made one assist in 12 games for Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas.
He has only scored once in his two appearances for Cameroon against the Eagles.
The goal came in a 1-1 draw in 2017 during the Russia 2018 World Cup second leg qualifiers in Yaoundé.
Meanwhile, Cameroon will go into Saturday’s clash looking for a first AFCON win against the Eagles since 2000.
After edging the Eagles on penalty shootout at the AFCON 2000, Cameroon lost to the Eagles at the 2004 and 2019 editions.
