Amusan’s UTEP Hall of Fame induction excites AFN
The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has praised the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) for inducting world record holder Tobi Amusan into its Hall of Fame.
Fielding questions from reporters recently, Okowa expressed his delight at the honour given to the 100-meter hurdle champion, emphasizing that such recognition will inspire upcoming athletes to embrace discipline and hard work.
“Tobi Amusan is a role model for many young athletes, both male and female. Honoring her is truly a remarkable achievement,” he stated.
“We are extremely pleased that the University of Texas at El Paso is recognizing Tobi Amusan. She is a beacon of hope, and her influence will continue to shine beyond Africa and the track,” Okowa added.
The President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Zone II remarked that this prestigious honour underscores Amusan’s outstanding accomplishments both on and off the track.
“I am confident that with adequate funding and the right policies, the revamped National Sports Commission (NSC), under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Honorable Bukola Olawale Olopade, will produce more athletes like Tobi Amusan in the future,” Okowa asserted.
Amusan made history as the first Nigerian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA, cementing her status as one of the greatest athletes in both Nigerian and world history.
