Cardiff City have completed the signing of Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho from French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old centre-back, who has made two international appearances for Nigeria, becomes the second arrival of the summer for the League One leaders.
Osho, who began his career at Reading, previously had loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Yeovil Town and Rochdale before moving to Luton Town in 2020. He was part of the Luton side that gained promotion to the Premier League in 2023 and featured in England’s top flight the following season, scoring twice in 21 appearances.
He joined Auxerre last July, making 20 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring once and receiving a red card. He started both of Auxerre’s opening league matches this season, against Lorient and Nice, before finalising his move to South Wales.
Speaking to Cardiff City’s media team, Osho said his decision was shaped by his relationship with manager Brian Barry-Murphy, who previously coached him during a loan spell at Rochdale.
“Brian played a big part. It’s always important when the player has a good relationship with the manager. I had a really good time at Rochdale, and the connection I built with Brian and the staff there was pretty amazing,” Osho said.
“It’s been a long time in the works, so to finally be here at the stadium and in the city has been good. I’ve been watching the games so far, and the atmosphere is amazing. Hopefully I can feed off the team’s momentum, get going straight away, and just keep the wins and the clean sheets going.”
Osho joins goalkeeper Nathan Trott, signed earlier on loan from FC Copenhagen, as part of Cardiff’s efforts to rebuild their squad following several first-team departures since relegation.
