Crisis in Team Nigeria’s camp as NOC, ministry feud over kits

Even as Team Nigeria is yet to reflect on the medals table at the ongoing Paris 2024, a cold war has ensued between the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Ministry of Sports over the approved kits for the contingent, reports sportsvillagesquare.com.
The outfit reports that two sets of kits are being distributed to Nigerian athletes, one belonging to the NOC and the other coming from the Ministry of Sports.
On Monday, Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh convened a meeting of the warring parties to quench the inferno.
A source close to the ministry said that the NOC did not disclose to the ministry that it had signed a kitting agreement with a firm on the eve of the Games.
The source disclosed that normally, there is always a general kit, which everyone should have and there is also the competition kit, which is the prerogative of each sports federation.
For instance, the NFF has Nike as its kit supplier. “There is no way you will ask the footballers to wear a different attire from that supplied by Nike,” the source said.
The general kit, it was gathered, is what the Team Nigeria athletes are supposed to wear when not competing.
