Delta State government has assured that this year’s Female Super Six contest in Asaba will be the best ever.

The Super Six competition earlier fixed to hold from June 9 to 18, will now hold between June 6 and 11 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, as teams are expected to arrive in Asaba tomorrow.

The Nigeria Women Female League (NWFL) stated that the change in date was to enable Nigeria meet the exigencies of the June 12 deadline set by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for the submission of names of champions in each country for the WAFU Zone B playoffs ahead of the continental Champions League.

The sudden change in date notwithstanding, the Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, said yesterday that state would give the competition the best treatment.

“This is the first competition Delta State is hosting under the tenure of our new Governor, His Excellency Sherrif Oborevwori. He is a great sports lover. As Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, he demonstrated his passion for sports by giving support to all sporting activities we organised under the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

“Governor Oborevwori is excited about the hosting the female Super Six, and I am sure he will be on ground to cheer the teams. We will give all the participating teams, their supporters and football fans from across the country a great treatment that Asaba is known for. We did it before and we will do it again,” Okowa said.

The participating teams expected to arrive in Asaba tomorrow, are defending the champions, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robbo, Confluence Queens, Rivers Angels and host, Delta Queens.

It would be recalled that Delta Queens FC gave the state its first major trophy in 2003, when it won that year’s Female Super Six contest in Umuahia, Abia State.
