Nigeria and Ghana head to a crucial decider for the 8th African Nations Championship ticket tomorrow in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, with the Black Galaxies banking on the repeat of the Black Stars’ victory over the Super Eagles in the race to Qatar 2022 World Cup.
As it happened at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja in 2021, the Galaxies have vowed to send millions of football-loving Nigerians to early bed tomorrow by stopping the Super Eagles B team in Uyo. The first leg in Accra ended goalless last Sunday, and the visitors are eying outright victory in Uyo or, at worst, a score draw to secure the ticket.
The Ghanaian team is expected to be in Uyo today. According to the coach of the Black Galaxies, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, the team focuses on the return leg and will be backed by the mentality of the last 2022 World Cup play-off tournament between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars. Then, in 2021, the Black Stars secured a 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles in Abuja after a goalless draw in the first leg in Ghana.
“What is positive about our team is that these boys have been exposed to a certain level of our Ghanaian league, and this is the page we want to print out by expressing our domestic competition structure to the rest of Africa and the world,” Dramani told journalists after training.
“We dominated play in the first leg, and it was unfortunate we couldn’t score. We have perfected everything, and I am very optimistic about finishing the job in Uyo on Saturday. We have beefed up our squad, and I believe the players can deliver the ticket for Ghana. Nigeria should forget the ticket this year.”
