Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen sustained a moderate ankle injury while playing for the Super Eagles in their 1-0 win against Rwanda on September 6, 2025, in Uyo.
Osimhen, a former Napoli forward, was substituted in the 35th minute after a collision left him limping on the Godswill Akpabio Stadium pitch. Cyriel Dessers replaced him, with medical staff taking immediate precautions to avoid further aggravating the injury.
Following the match, Galatasaray arranged for Osimhen to return to Istanbul via a private jet, while the Nigerian national team continued their journey to Bloemfontein for their next fixture against South Africa.
Upon arrival in Turkey, the striker underwent examinations at Galatasaray’s partner hospital. Op. Dr. Yener İnce, the club’s first-team doctor, reported: “During examinations carried out today on our first team player, Victor Osimhen, a moderate sprain of the ankle ligaments (with stretching and bleeding) was diagnosed. The necessary treatment has started so he can return to the field as soon as possible.”
Osimhen’s injury comes amid a crucial period for both Galatasaray and the Nigerian national team, with the striker expected to undergo treatment and rehabilitation under the supervision of the Istanbul club’s medical specialists.
