Former Manchester City defender, Vincent Kompany, has agreed to join Bayern Munich as head coach on a three-year deal.

Bayern have turned to Kompany after search for Thomas Tuchel’s replacement faced several setbacks, with rejections from Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, along with failed negotiations with Tuchel to extend his contract.

The German giants will pay Burnley £10.2m to bring the 38-year-old Belgian to replace outgoing manager Thomas Tuchel.

According to ESPN, Kompany, who signed a contract extension at Turf Moor in May 2023, has already verbally accepted an offer from the Bundesliga side. It will be the former Manchester City defender’s third managerial appointment following spells at Anderlecht and Burnley.

Kompany, who started his management career with Anderlecht, impressed with his attacking approach at Burnley.

Despite Burnley’s relegation last season, Kompany earned high praise for his managerial skills, transforming the team’s playing style and leading them back to the Premier League after a single season in the Championship.

However, Burnley’s disappointing performance in the top flight prompted Kompany’s departure, allowing the club to seek a replacement as they prepare for another promotion campaign.
