The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has commended the Super Falcons for their victory over arch-rivals, South Africa, just as he charged the team to bring home the trophy.
The Super Falcons, who are chasing a record 10th title, defeated the Banyana Banyana 2-1 in their semifinal on Tuesday to set up a showdown with host, Morocco, who stopped the Black Queens of Ghana in the other semifinal.
Shauibu, who is the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State and ex-player of Bendel Insurance FC of Benin, described Tuesday’s match against South Africa as a “final before the final.”
Two goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie took the Super Falcons to the final, despite conceding a goal through a Linda Motlhalo penalty. The Super Falcons lost the title to Banyana Banyana in 2022.
While tasking the team to go for victory against Morocco, the NIS boss, who promised to be in Morocco for the final match, said winning the game on Saturday would be a great present to Nigerians.
“Our ladies need to improve on the game in the final against Morocco because we were just lucky to have that additional goal against the South Africans on Tuesday. The Super Falcons must bear in mind that Morocco are the host country,” Shaibu stated.
