Warri Wolves kickoff new NNL campaign against Crown FC
Rejuvenated Warri Wolves FC will, tomorrow, begin another journey with a view to gaining promotion from the Nigerian National League (NNL) to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the end of the season.
Warri Wolves is one of the country’s clubs with a large followership and tomorrow, the Seasiders will face Crown FC in a clash of former NPFL heavyweights at the Sapele Township Stadium.
It will be one of the most anticipated matches of the NNL fixtures this weekend.
Now under the care of one of the longest-serving coaches in Nigerian football, Napoleon Aluma, Warri Wolves FC is expected to use this clash with Crown FC to win back the hearts of its fans, especially in Sapele, a city that has been starved of top flight football action since the stadium was built by Delta State’s former governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Aluma, a respected football tactician, who was trained in Brazil, has traversed the nooks and crannies of the country rendering his services to clubs.
A former coach of Invincible Leopards FC of Warri, Aluma, who was also trained at the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Lagos, has participated in FIFA coaching clinics and also holds a CAF ‘B’ License.
He was part of the maiden FIFA Women U-19 Championship in Canada in 2002, and was at Olympique Marseille, France, for a two-week training in 2008.
He was appointed as the new coach of Warri Wolves FC a few weeks ago by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Another football technocrat, Neville Ambakederemo, is now the Club’s General Manager. Ambakederemo has seen it all in football administration, and the fans believe that with his combination with Aluma, Warri Wolves will have a lot to gain this season.
The fans have, however, appealed to Governor Oborevwori not to starve the Club of funds as was the case in the past.
The Nigerian National League (NNL) kicked off last weekend with an opener between newcomers Abakiliki FC and Madiba FC of Lagos. The match, held in Abakiliki, ended in a 2-2 draw.
