Two NYSC members die, 15 get extension in Kano

Two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Batch A 2020 have lost their lives while serving in Kano State. However, five members of the same set have been sanctioned, and will repeat their service year for violating rules guiding the scheme.

Kano State Coordinator of NYSC, Aisha Mohammed, disclosed these yesterday during the terminal Passing Out Parade (POP) of the batch at the Federal Secretariat in Kano.

Mohammed, who regretted death of the young talents during the service year, however, disclosed that the deceased passed on at their respective homes during visits to their parents.

Her words: “The two corps members, who were relocated from where they were initially posted, got sick and eventually died at their home while receiving treatment.

“Again, 15 corps members would go on an extension of service. Out of the figure, five of them would be re-mobilised, which means that they would repeat their service year.”

She, however, urged the outgoing corps members not to wait for white-collar jobs, which, according to her, were not in existence, but acquire vocational skills to establish themselves.

There were 2,155 participants in the POP, including 1,296 males and 869 females.
