Speakers of the Houses of Assembly in South-West, yesterday, said they were working towards harmonised legislation in the region to tackle security challenges, regional integration, economic development and others.

Chairman, Conference of Speakers, South-West, and Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, disclosed this while speaking with journalists shortly after meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Speakers and other lawmakers also called for the removal of policing from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List to address security challenges in the region.

They asserted that they were working towards legislation, particularly in the areas where the region has common challenges and issues.

Aribasoye said: “Our visit to Oyo State today is part of our visit to all the states in the South-West on the need for us to have regional integration and development, look at the issues of security, particularly in our region, and to call for multi-level policing in Nigeria most importantly.

“We have also come to commiserate with the governor and the people of Oyo State on that needless explosion that took in Ibadan.”

MEANWHILE, Oyo State House of Assembly, yesterday, vowed that it would leave no stone unturned in curbing the killing of innocent citizens by Fulani herders in Oriire Local Council and other parts of the state.

The lawmakers unanimously declared this while reacting to a motion sponsored by the member representing Oriire State Constituency, Johnson Ogundele.

Ogundele, while presenting the motion, maintained that two incidents of attacks and killing of innocent people by Fulani herders occurred within a spate of nine days in the council, describing both incidents as absolutely inhuman and barbaric in a civilised world like ours.

The Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, who presided over the plenary, promised that the leadership of the House would meet and look for parameters to be adopted to curb the menace of insecurity in the state.
