The call for State Police has been resonating in Nigeria for years, due to the realization that the Nigeria Police, as presently constituted cannot handle the increased demands of law enforcement, in the criminal justice system.
The state police revisited
It is astonishing, indeed shocking, that any group would still oppose the establishment of state police in this country in this day and age, especially given the grim security challenges Nigeria has been facing for a long while.
Speakers to lead call for state police
Obasa posited that the challenges of security as it currently affects all the 36 states of the federation, has made the demand for creation of state police “a must consider for the guarantee of safety of lives and property.”
‘Time for state police has come’
I personally do not subscribe to the notion of “Biafran state” out of Nigeria. At least, it can be appreciated that the geographical entity Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu conceptualized in 1967 is not the same as the present South East as constituted.
