Total Nigeria Plc in partnership with Kasher Consulting organised the third edition of “Total Job Shado” at the Kaduna Blending Plant and Kaduna Sales Office simultaneously.

According to a statement from Total, the programme is an employee engagement activity designed to increase career awareness among senior secondary school students and to help model students’ behavior through examples set by employees who serve as their mentors.

It added that through the experience at the job shadow, the link between classroom learning and practical workplace requirements is re-enforced in the students.

Total disclosed that a total of thirty students from the following secondary schools participated in the programme: Government day Secondary School Makera, Government day Secondary School Kakuri and Queen Amina College, Kakuri.

Speaking at the event, representative of the Managing Director, Jean Philippe-Torres, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Albert Mabuyaku, said the leadership workshop was staged to educate the students on how to become exceptional leaders.

He said listed other activities at the programme to include pairing students with employees to enable them experience the work environment, occupational skills in practice and potential career options.

He said that the tour of the blending plant was organised by Kaduna Plant Manager, Daniel Chukwu as well as a field trip to Total service stations organised by the Retail Sales Manager (Kaduna), A. J. Jimoh.

The statement explained that the overall objective was to expose these young Nigerians, who are leaders and employees of tomorrow, to the work environment whilst also inspiring them to become positive change agents despite the many challenges they may face.

“All the students received branded gift items. Feedback from the students was very inspiring as some of them confirmed the experience was a very memorable one which has made strong impressions in their career decisions. Others said it has given then an entirely different perspective to academics and work life environment and they promised to share this experience with fellow students.

“As a wrap up to this program, the students will write an essay on their experience after which winners will emerge from each school. The first place winners will receive educational tablets preloaded with past examination questions, text books and other educational activities. The tablets will equally be internet enabled to assist their academic research works. The runners-up will also be rewarded with other branded gift items.”
