The University of Nigeria Nsukka, has partnered Eduplatforms Ltd., the education technology solution arm of Emerging Platforms Group, to establish a distance learning centre in the school.

The Project Manager of Emerging Platforms Group, Mr Olorunninwo Ebinisa, disclosed this while addressing participants at a one-day workshop, which had as its theme: “Courseware Design and Development for Open and Distance Learning (ODL),” for the institution’s academic staff and relevant stakeholders.

He said that it was important to equip academic staff with the necessary skills to design and develop courseware materials suitable for distance learning as this will contribute immensely to the overall quality of the programme.

Ebisina noted that the workshop which was organised in accordance with the stipulations of the National Universities Commission (NUC) as regards commencement of distance learning degree programmes centered on introducing participants to instructional design principles and theories; course material development and equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for the design and development of ODL-compliant course content.

The project manager affirmed that the centre, when functional, would be equipped with appropriate modern technological infrastructure that would serve several stakeholders, including teachers and students effectively.

“The centre will be a platform through which students of the distance learning programmes can access information from electronic devices outside the confines of the university.

“This is in line with the core objectives of the EduPlatforms Ltd. to deliver massively impactful solutions in the education space by leveraging on technology,’’ Ebinisa said.

The partnership between UNN and EduPlatforms Ltd., is expected to bring about a robust e-learning based open and distance learning regime at the UNN.

The firm is responsible for designing and deploying the e-learning solution platform iLearn, currently in use at the National Open University Nigeria, the foremost Open and Learning distance institution in Nigeria.
