Ambode, Osoba, Amuka-Pemu for APCOM’s maiden gala

The Association of Practitioners of Community Media of Nigeria (APCOM) will tomorrow, June 12 debut with its maiden gala/award evening titled: ‘2019 Elections: Galvanising Public Participation through Community Media,’ in honour of the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode at Adam & Eve, Ikeja GRA.

Former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba is the chairman of the occasion, while Sam Amuka-Pemu, publisher of Vanguard newspaper, is father of the day. Other dignitaries expected at the event include Kehinde Bamigbetan, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy; Waheed Odusile, president of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); Lanre Idowu of Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) and a host of other personalities from the media, business and other sectors of the corporate world.

Ambode would be conferred with ‘Champion of Community Media Empowerment & Community Development’ for his vision in bringing community media into the mainstream of his administration. Two veteran community journalists, Monzur Olowosago, publisher of Oriwu Sun, and Jim Suleiman, publisher of The Commoners, would also be honoured for serving as inspiration to others.

According to the association’s president, Dayo Akintobi, the event would be a celebration of journalism practice and an avenue to rub minds on the best way to enhance the profession in the country, while honouring key stakeholders in the industry who have contributed to the growth and development of community media.
