Army kills seven in fresh attacks in Bakassi
The Army in Bakassi yesterday killed seven militants as the Bakassi Strike Force (BSF) attacked the military in Bakassi. Last month, the militants had carried out a similar attack and killed six soldiers but the Army denied this, saying only one soldier and two militants were killed in the surprise encounter.
A press statement by the Army Public Relations Officer, 13 brigade Nigerian Army, Captain KO Owolabi captioned, “Unrepentant militant group, Bakassi Strike Force attacked Army position in Efut Essighi, Cross River state”, said the attack occurred in the early hours of yesterday.
The Army command said items recovered include 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, Rocket propelled Gun launcher, GPMG Belt links and various charms.
Anxiety is growing in the area as the residents are living in fear, following the militant’s activities and the massive military action to put them in check.
