Bello names Varsity after Audu
The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has named the state university after the first executive governor of the state, the late Prince Abubakar Audu.
It would be recalled that at the twilight of the administration of the immediate past governor, Idris Wada, the Kogi State Polytechnic was designated to be named after the late Audu. It is also on record that the late former governor had named the university, which he initiated after himself as Prince Abubakar Audu University while he was still in office as governor.
However, when he lost election in 2003 to former Governor Ibrahim Idris, the institution’s name was returned to Kogi State University.
Governor Bello who spoke during a statewide broadcast yesterday in Lokoja to mark his victory in five litigations against his emergence as governor at the State Election Petition Tribunal said the late politician deserves to be immortalised by naming the highest institution in the state after his memory.
He said Audu was a great politician whose legacies are very visible for all to see, adding that he would send an executive bill to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.
