Buhari laughs off wife’s comments, says she belongs to ‘my kitchen’

Buhari and Merkel

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in Germany to confer with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to comments made by his wife, Aisha, that she may not support him if he seeks reelection in 2019.

“I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again,” Mrs Buhari said in an interview with BBC Hausa’s Naziru Mikailu.

But President Buhari has laughed off his wife’s comment while talking to reporters in Germany where he is meeting with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room,” said President Buhari, Associated Press reported.

Mrs Buhari claimed that her husband is surrounded by people he does not know and suggested that the government might have been hijacked from him, a sentiment shared by the president of the Nigerian senate, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki had on June 27, 2016, claimed that there was a cabal in the Federal Government that had taken over the rein of government from President Buhari.

But the president has discounted Mrs Buhari’s sentiments. “So I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition because in the end I have succeeded,” he said.

“It’s not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government.”

No wonder the whole world is looking at us as “fools”, just look at the face of the leader of 173.6 million (2013) people, very shameful. This man should be retired sitting down looking after his grand children and not leading a grate country like Nigeria.

Dont you think Queen Elizabeth is Older?

      • Tom Okeke

Is Queen Elizabeth heading any government? Ignoramus…

        • David Pember

She is not heading any government; she actually have a government. It’s called her majesty’s government

          • gafar_1

The Queen is the UK head of state. Hillary Clinton is 68 and Trump is 70. Besides, Jonathan who is younger what did he do to Nigeria, than bankrupting it. Aisha is a full wife and the President’s comment doesn’t demeaning her value.

        • Frederick Omondiale

You are the ignoramus! The queen is the head of the british government. Besides, Ronald Reagan ruled the USA from the age of 68yrs till he was 76yrs old.

          • beccabunny09 .

Towards the end of Reagan’s term, it was an open secret that he was having a hard time remembering things and his wife and chief of staff did a lot of the real business of governance. Nothing as bad as Woodrow Wilson however but something to keep in mind when electing an older person to a stressful position in government.

          • beccabunny09 .

The queen is the figurehead of the government which is a constitutional monarchy. She has very little real power but a lot of soft power and popular support.

You must be clowning to call the Woman who gave your Country independence a FIGURE HEAD

        • Akin Malaolu

Her Royal Highness is the owner of England. The new Female Prime Minister made that known when she visited the Queen

        • Tafida Gadzama

Get out. Stop comparing Nigeria and Britain monkey.

      • Akin Malaolu

Has he answered back to your question

    • Tafida Gadzama

Defeat him first. He won an election.

      • Ibu Anyi Danda

Which election did he won,? the sham or charade was continuation of British enslavements of stupid black man, Buhari was installed by America and the British. Did you see Kelly flew direct from Kenya to Sokoto the headquarter of the Islamic Caliphate in the zoo (nigga-area) not even the zoo(nigga-area) foreign minister was at the Airport to welcome him, your people and Buhari are just pawn to the West. Just recently a report by your National Assembly, between 2014 and 2016 some companies from America pumped Crude Oil worth 12 billion dollars without your government knowing, this is only America, 53 other western countries and China were involved. Now you see the reason why the British loves you so much and handed over (nigga-area) to you.

      • Akin Malaolu

        Thank you please

    • Ade Richie

    • Tafida Gadzama

Which the world? Jonathan said corruption isn’t stealing. Ethnic frustrated bigoted people.

  • tom odi

That’s freedom of expression—the beauty of our democracy and our constitution. The president is opinion-tolerant. But tere is many a true word spoken in jest. Buhari should watch his lieutenants closely. He should do away with fifth columnists in his cabinet.

  • Tafida Gadzama

The wife heat the nail on the head.

  • Babrutus

This is a man after my heart.

  • KayEbie

Disrespectful comment from a President to his wife saying “she belongs to his kitchen, living room and other room”.

    • Akin Malaolu

      That was said JOCULARLY.
Wives are for homes mostly in Africa
Winnie Mandela lost her marriage for similar reasons don’t forget.

      • capt.aka eric

my friend…i don’t think you’re today’s person, please, don’t drag us back, life is more that that you’re still holding on to…that Wives are for homes mostly in Africa….what about elsewhere?

  • Akin Malaolu

Buhari was not hard on his wife as painted by other Newspapers. His response shows his decency and to some respect for the wife
She was WRONG to be doing the jobs of the OPPOSITION

A few words: first lets assume it was not a preprogrammed, diversionary family set up. In that case the first lady demonstrated much thoughtful courage to alert the world about an imminent concatenation of the polity. She should be commended. Next mr presidents reply under such public glare of events was apt. Every president would like to play down such scenario in public even if he holds the revelations to be of utmost gravity. Finally the kitchen issue. We have to realize that civilization and the health of man and his children begin from the kitchen! Every sensible woman even professors or ministers cannot joke or delegate away the expert touch needed in the family kitchen to maidservants alone. Likewise every well brought up lady from professor to minister knows fully welll that mothers milk is most important for physical, mental, moral and spiritual development of the child from the first 18 months of life. However the ill advised lady relying on bad advice, bad companies, and ragamuffin media raves gets disoriented and ruins her home herself like the badly advised feminists. Anything that easily ruins a home and destabilizes the kids is of the devil. The same with anything that cannot make a lady build a nice, decent home. There was a young girl that visited her uncle and when he asked her to cook she burnt the rice, spoilt the stew, burnt the pot and it was all a mess. She was on her cell phone most of the time. And of course knew next to nothing about cooking. She told her uncle she was preparing for jamb to read law. Her uncle promptly registetrd her in a catering school. Few months later before her matriculation results came out she had graduated from catering school and brought home cakes, meatpies, sausage rolls, table clothes, flower pots etc all made by her. Her uncle beamed with smiles and said: now you can go on and become a lawyer,an accountant,a doctor,a teacher,a scientist or whatever you want to be. This is an important real life story lesson. Life is approached with commonsense, foresight, plans, goals and not seen anyhow, anyway the wind blows

  • capt.aka eric

it shows clearly that the president is really sick in the head….the turmoil in his ears is preventing him from hearing not even from his wife

THIS BUHARI CLOWN FROM TOM AND JERRY SHOW HAS NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN LEAST HIS UNFORTUNATE WIFE, AISHA.

IT IS OBVIOUS BECAUSE BUHARI IS USED TO MOVING FROM ONE WOMAN TO ANOTHER IN THEIR ROTTEN POLYGAMOUS CULTURE. HE SPOKE THE TRUTH, WHEN HE SAYS, HIS WIFE BELONGS TO HIS KITCHEN, TO HIS LIVING ROOM, TO HIS BED ROOM. PEOPLE LIKE BUHARI TREAT WOMEN LIKE DIRT.

THE MAN IS NOT ONLY INSANE BUT ALSO FEELING-LESS, COLD AND CALLOUS. NO WONDER, NIGERIAN MASSES AND OLD AGE PENSIONERS ARE SUFFERING AT HIS HANDS. BUHARI IS A DEADWOOD FOOL AND HE WILL REMAIN A SHAMELESS FOOL. THE MAN HAS NO SELF-RESPECT, NO SELF-DIGNITY AND NO CHARACTER. GOD WILL PUNISH HIM.

  • Rev

    So they just realized that…?

  • Tafida Gadzama

Saudi Arabia that no issues of women can be discussed and nothing anyone can do about their culture. Please off Buhari back because Nigeria is different and gradually things will change as time goes on. It was like that in the Western world before they experience gradual change.

  • isaac orogun

I love the wise and humorous reaction of the President to the comments of his wife on his political decisions, associates and activities. Do not crucify her. Make peace at home. Cheers.

    *THE OTHER ROOM*…
    The other room
    Where a woman pretends
    To be weak
    So that a man
    Can believe he is strong
    Where a woman pretends
    To be foolish
    So that a man
    Can say he is wise
    Where a woman stoops
So that a man can conquer.
    The other room
    Where gods of men
    Become worshippers of women
    Where leaders of thought
    Become minions
    Of the bleeders of blood
    Where wielders of power
    Succumb to power.
    The other room
    Where the brashness of testosterone
Yields to the bra straps of estrogen
    Where the bravado of masculinity
Is tamed by the wiles of femininity
    Where the turgid
    Becomes the flaccid
    Three rooms
    In a house
    One in which a man
    Believes he is king
    Two in which
    He realises
    A woman is god
    Copied.

The irony is that a typical Awusa or Fulani family in Northern Nigeria has no Kitchen.
