Herdsmen kill dozens in Adamawa village
Suspected Fulani herdsmen, yesterday killed dozens of people and injured several others in Kodomun Village in Demsa Local Council of Adamawa State northeast Nigeria today in afternoon.
Secretary to Bata Traditional Council in Demsa, Mr. Harrison Wonokpalukai, who confirmed the attack to The Guardian, said that a security man working in the Bata palace was also killed when he went in search of dead bodies of some of his relations that were killed by the Fulani herdsmen.
“The security man who is in charge of the gate left this afternoon to go and search for the corpses of some of his relations that were killed during the attack and he was also killed by the Fulani herdsmen who hid inside the bush surrounding the village,” he said.
He said that the corpses were still in the bush since the herdsmen were still lurking around to kill people coming to take away the corpses of their loved ones.“Soldiers and few policemen went to the area, but could not enter the battlefield because of their number. So, they returned to Yola the state capital for reinforcement,” he stated.
Harrison said the traditional ruler in the area has directed all the people not to go in search of their missing relations until security agents rid the bushes of the blood-thirsty herdsmen. He also said that the injured victims that escaped were receiving treatment at the Demsa Missionary Hospital.
“I am in the hospital now as I talk to you, those that were injured are undergoing medical treatment. The hospital is housing 11 people with gun shots, who, though seriously wounded, escaped from the unprovoked attack by the Fulani herdsmen,” he maintained. The Adamawa state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Abubakar Usman, did not respond to several calls put across to him by The Guardian .
