The Kwara State government yesterday pledged to support the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to improve services at the Ilorin International Airport.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sola Isiaka Gold, gave the promise when FAAN’s General Manager and the Chief Security Officer visited him.

He said the state would collaborate with other relevant agencies to enlighten intending hajj pilgrims on anti-social behaviour and other prohibited practices.

The SSG expressed regret that pilgrims from Kwara State were caught with some banned substances during the last hajj operations.

While soliciting FAAN’s cooperation to improve the operational standards at the airport, he urged the security agencies to prevent a recurrence.

FAAN’s General Manager, Ibrahim AbdulAzeez, expressed appreciation to the government for its commitment.

He urged the state to look into other areas of collaboration to solve the challenges facing efficient service-delivery at the airport.

AbdulAzeez appealed to the state government to give it some logistic support like operational vehicles to facilitate the movement of security personnel.

He explained that FAAN was working with the Federal Government to acquire some screening equipment to improve its operations.

He warned the general public to avoid encroaching on the airport premises.

Also, the Chief Security Officer, Amao Aderemi, lauded Senate President Bukola Saraki for constituting a five-man committee to monitor the last hajj operation.

He appealed to him to continue with the gesture as the next hajj approaches.
