Rotary Club to rebuild dilapidated Ogun school

THE Rotary Club, Akute, District 911, Ogun State has taken up the responsibility of rebuilding a section of the dilapidated Zion African Church School, Otun, Akute, Ogun State.

The school, which was established in 1913, is one of the oldest schools in the community. The project, which is expected to commence, very soon, will gulp about N3 million.

According to the Secretary of the club, Alhaji Sulaimon Ogunmola, Rotary had got approval for building from government and work would start very soon.

The Rotary District Governor, Otunba Bola Onabadejo, attended the event students of the schools were presented with exercise books.
The club would also cope the school fence, which it built last year to fortify the fence for optimum durability. The project was the club’s was the club’s Signature Project in 2014/ 2015.

The Rotary District Governor, who went round the school-expressed happiness that the club was impacting the lives of the people and advised that the place should be fenced round to prevent land grabbers from encroaching on the land.

Mr. Ahmed Oladimeji, who represented the headmistress of the school and students, while receiving free big notes from Rotary Club were grateful for the gestures.

According to Oladimeji, the visit from Rotary a dream come true, and like Oliver Twist, it was a dream come true, playing a host to Rotary.

The gesture of Rotary was not limited to the Zion African Church School, the club also inaugurated new students into its adult literacy centre at Zumratu Islamiya School, Akute.

The programme tagged: “Another chance at school.” The school, which currently has 16 students started about 5 years ago. Ogun State government recognized the vocational school.

Aside teaching the students how to read and write, Rotary Club of Akute has also set up vocational centre for the graduate of these schools.
Speaking, one of the organizers of the adult literacy programme, Rotarian Soetan disclosed that the cooperation between Rotary and Zumratu Islamiya School started long time go. According to him, Rotary sunk borehole.
