Vice President Yemi Osinbajo may have opted to fall back to his constituency, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as realignment ahead of 2023 gets into full swing. 

The Guardian was reliably informed, yesterday, that a close ally of the Vice President was the arrowhead behind the Friday’s visit of CAN to Osinbajo in Abuja to seek clarifications over the steaming N90b corruption allegation levelled against him.  

According to a Presidency source, the initiator of the visit wanted CAN to identify with the Vice President since the support of his political godfather has become doubtful and may not be readily available considering various interests ahead of 2023.  

The source informed The Guardian that CAN leaders were hosted at Akinola Aguda House, but that Osinbajo met the CAN President first for hours before meeting with the rest of the delegation (about 60) that came from across the country, alongside the association’s National Executive Committee (NEC). 

Osinbajo used the opportunity of the visit to clear his name of any wrongdoing, informing the delegation that he was innocent of all the allegations.

Meanwhile, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, yesterday, in a statement in Abuja, urged Ayokunle to face his priestly duties and shepherd his flock well.

At least, even if it is now a political party, he ought to have allowed its spokesman to speak on behalf of the organisation called on President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle to promote uprightness in the country. 

Frank, who in a statement in Abuja, urged Ayokunle to face his priestly duties and shepherd his flock well, said it was “shameful that the CAN President has turned the body of Christ into a political pressure group. At least, even if it is now a political party, he ought to have allowed its spokesman to speak on behalf of the organisation.
