• FRSC, transporters caution tricycle operators on safety
With the Yuletide fast approaching, the Nigerian Army has stepped up the tempo of its operations across the federation.

The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, stated yesterday in Abuja that between September 25 and 28, 2019, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Mesa and Operation Swift Response relentlessly and successfully combated criminals.

He said: “Within the period under review, the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army deployed in the North East for Operation Lafiya Dole continued to dominate the entire area of operations with aggressive fighting patrols and ambush operations to find, fix and neutralise the fleeing Boko Haram criminals/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements, including their marauding informants and logistics suppliers who are currently in disarray as a result of the troops’ unrelenting aggressive posture.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged Nigerians to embrace safety and to traffic rules and regulations as the nation celebrates its 59th independence today.

In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, the organisation stressed the need for road users to drive with caution.He said the corps was aware of how much the country cherishes its sovereignty, urging moderation by the citizenry.

Accordingly, the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, to prioritise safety during and after the celebrations.
In Anambra, tricycle operators in have also been charged on safety.

The FRSC state Sector Commander e, Andrew Kumapayi, made the call during a seminar on ‘Road Safety and Security’ organised for members of the United Commercial Tricycle Owners and Riders (UTORASS) by the corps and the Vehicle Operation Office (VIO) at Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Council of the state yesterday.Represented by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), FRSC, Awka Command, Pascal Anigbo, the commander urged the operators to avoid over-speeding and over-loading.
