The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has assured that the 11th Biennial Police Games, tagged ‘Abuja 2016,’ will not only provide a platform for the Police, the Military and other security agencies to showcase their sporting prowess, but will also be a tool for further strengthening the relationship among these sister agencies.

Arase disclosed this yesterday at the opening ceremony of the event, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja from March 19 to 26, 2016.

He noted that the games, which started modestly in 1946, has evolved into a biennial event that draws participants from all Police commands and formations nationwide, with athletes participating in 28 sporting events.

Arase ‎stated that the games have over the years placed Nigeria on the world map and produced star athletes, who have made the country and the Nigerian Police proud.

“It should be noted that Nigeria’s first gold medallist at the Olympics is officer Chioma Ajunwa, a serving police officer, who won the long jump event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the United States of America.
