Lagos State Gymnastic Association will host the second edition of the Invitational Artistic Gymnastics Championship at the Mobolaji Johnson Indoor Hall, Rowe Park Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos, between May 10 and 14, 2016.
The competition is being organised to aid the development of gymnastic and also help athletes prepare their bodies, develop their artistic skills, techniques and revamp their confidence. Six states of the federation, including Lagos, Oyo, Delta, Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo states with a total of 144 gymnasts will take part in the senior, intermediate and junior categories of the competition..
Chairperson of the Association, Adebamke Oloko, disclosed that the boys’ category will feature floor, vault, pummel horse, parallel bar and ring events, while the Girls will take part in floor, vault and pummel horse events.
The championship, sponsored by the Lagos State government, will serve as a yardstick to measure the performance of the state’s gymnasts ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival and other competitions.
Oloko noted that the event was an important tool for evolving a common front for the development and social integration of the Southwest region in particular.
“The competition would also serve as platform for Lagos State to select gymnasts that would represent the state in national open and age group championships,” she said.
