Man docked for alleged threat on wife’s life
A 60-year-old man, Okechukwu Akunna, on Monday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly threatening the life of his wife.
The police charged Akunna for breach of peace and threat to life, punishable under sections 168 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 11, 2020, at Folawowo Street, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Ajayi said that the defendant threatened the life of his wife, Bamidele, following misunderstandings they had been having for a while.
She said that Akunna also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by sending series of abusive text messages to his wife.
According to her, the defendant also sent some of his wife’s naked pictures threatening to publicise them.
Akunna was, however, arrested after a thorough investigation,” Ajayi said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene `sections 168 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 56 stipulates a one-year jail term for threatening violence.
Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ajibade adjourned the case until Feb. 11, for further mention.
