Lagos unveils five-year agric roadmap

Lagos State government, yesterday, said it was poised to provide needed infrastructure in critical areas towards ensuring food sufficiency and security.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this at the launch of Lagos State Five-Year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap (2021-2025) in Victoria Island.

In his speech at the event, Sanwo-Olu said the state government would, among other interventions, revamp agriculture, strengthen the coconut belt as a deliberate incentive to make investments safe and viable, generate wealth and focus on initiatives to provide jobs for youths.

According to him, the government has been proactive in its approach as the Imota Rice Mill is near completion.

In their goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Finance, Rabiu Olowo, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, said the roadmap re-affirmed government’s commitment to revamping agricultural sector, among others.

Stakeholders at the event, which featured paper presentations, include President of African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina, Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Kehinde Joseph.
