About 31 lawyers have indicated interest in the 14 leadership positions of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
This was made known at the formal opening of Expression of Interest/Nomination Forms conducted Saturday in the presence of aspirants, their representatives and observers.
Among those vying for positions was Joe Gazama (SAN), whose interest is to lead the association as the next president.
Chairman, Electoral Committee, Kenneth Mozia (SAN), who supervised the opening of the forms, assured aspirants and other members of NBA that his committee would do its best in conducting not just free, fair and credible election but also that, which would serve as a model for future elections in the country.
The chairman also disclosed that the committee would immediately go through the forms and publish names of successful candidates.
Noting that the association was at the verge of compiling a comprehensive and credible voter register, Mozia admonished NBA branches across the country that have not been maintaining an effective register to be up to date to guide against being disenfranchised.
According to him, the committee plans to experiment with the electronic voting at its National Executive Committee meeting in Benin, before the main election, stressing that stakeholders’ meeting would equally be convened where members would be at liberty to bring in their IT specialists to test-run the e-voting process.
