Afrobeat king and social crusader, Femi Anikulapo Kuti, kept to the family script as he condemned the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, for his infamous statement at Buckingham Palace early last month that Nigerians are fantastically corrupt.
Kuti also didn’t spare President Muhammadu Buhari for not defending millions of honest Nigerians during the security conference and when he had the opportunity to challenge and correct Cameron.
Speaking while performing before a packed audience at the Royal Festival Hall at the weekend, Kuti said that for President Buhari not to have challenged the British PM, the President was himself agreeing to the insinuation that by default, he is actually corrupt – if indeed he is the president of a fantastically-corrupt country.
“Buhari must tell Cameron to apologise. How can he agree that Nigerians are fantastically corrupt? That means he’s corrupt.”
Kuti then used himself as a representative of many millions of Nigerians who are not in any way corrupt, saying: “As far as I know, I’m not corrupt. There are millions of honest Nigerians working to keep your – British – economy going.”
He then compared President Buhari to United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama, who he said, would never go to a foreign country and agree – with their leader – to any insinuation that his people are “drug addicts” despite the fact that tens of thousands of Americans are hooked on drugs.
