WITH the presidential election having ended with the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as the President-elect, the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) has declared that it was yet to take a decision on its next line of action and support in the April 11 governorship election across the country.
TAN, which gave its full support to the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan during the presidential election, said that it would take its stock and come out with a position on the candidates it would endorse during the governorship elections.
Briefing the media yesterday in Abuja, the National Co-ordinator of TAN, Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who said that his organisation worked in partnership with supporters of some governorship candidates in its campaign for the re-election of President Jonathan, insisted that TAN was not formed to play the role of political parties, adding that just as it endorsed the President based on his performance rather that political affiliation, it would take such considerations before coming out with its position on the governorship candidates it would support.
Ubah, who congratulated the President-elect on behalf of TAN for his consistency and resilience in his quest for the Presidency since 2003, noted that TAN would continue to pursue its set out programmes of advocacy, job creation and pursuit of good governance even beyond the 2015 general elections, adding that it would support the efforts and programmes of the President-elect to drive home the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.
TAN national co-ordinator said: “We of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) express our gratitude to God and Nigerians. We appeal to all Nigerians to accept the outcome of the presidential election as the will of God, Nigerians and lovers of Democracy. The 2015 presidential election has proven that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.
“We wish to congratulate the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for his consistency, persistence, doggedness and resilience since 2003 in his quest for the Presidency of Nigeria. This shows that persistence on a mission yields success in the end. His courage will make a good case study in the universities all over the world.
“Also, we salute and commend President Goodluck Jonathan for laying the most solid foundation for the growth of democracy in Nigeria and Africa with his statesmanlike act of conceding defeat to the President-elect, even before the whole results were declared. This act saved Nigeria from the plunges.
He proved TAN right when we published an advert, ‘‘Thank you Nigerians for giving us Goodluck.” He did not disappoint once again. We urge Nigerians irrespective of their religious, ethnic and political affiliations to respect the outcome of the election in the interest of peace, progress, unity and development of our country.”
